We had the privilege of interviewing Dana Distortion. She shared with us a little about her experience with BABYMETAL before and after the last World Tour.
Could you give us a little introduction about you?
Hey hey! My name is Dana aka Dana distortion and I’m a photographer and a filmmaker from New York.
Why did you decide to be a part of the photography world?
I didn’t really decide it, it was kind of decided for me. I fell into it by chance and then like most wonderful things, I discovered it’s my biggest passion and…that I’m lucky enough not to suck at it.
What is your favorite Heavy Metal band?
I love metal. I would say my favorite is probably Pantera and Iron Maiden. I’m a huge Metallica fan but some don’t consider them to be heavy metal.
What was your first impression of BABYMETAL?
I fell in love with BABYMETAL the first second I saw them. It was exactly one year ago in Japan. My friend got me in to shoot the show and I knew nothing about them at the time. I was stunned. These girls are nothing but amazing! True professionals and the sweetest girls I have ever met.
Do you have a favorite BABYMETAL song? Which one?
I love them all but my favorite would have to be “Onedari Daisakusen.”
With your experience on the last world tour, what differences or particular things have you found between Japanese fans and fans all over the world?
No difference really, they are all really great and super loyal. I’m really impressed by the amount of love the fans are giving them all over the world. They grew so big so fast right in front of my eyes.
Could you share with us a little anecdote of the world tour?
Touring with BABYMETAL is one of the most exciting things that has ever happened to me, and I’m very honored and thrilled they chose me to be their photographer. They are all super professionals and so great to work with. I love the traveling part of it all. Seeing new places, meeting new people. Touring is great in general and with them it’s even better.
What was the highlight for you in the world tour?
The highlight is definitely festivals. It’s great to attend them as an artist and not just a photographer. We got to meet and hang out with a lot of my all-time favorite bands. It’s a rare, wonderful experience that not many get to have. I’m very thankful for that.
Of all the BABYMETAL concerts you’ve been, which one is your favorite? and why?
My favorite one was hands down the first one last year in Japan, as I had never seen them or met them before and really didn’t know what to expect. I couldn’t believe so much can come out of such young girls. I was floored really. I have never seen anything like it in my life.
Did you know something about the big fan base here in latin america?
I really don’t and I can’t wait to find out! I’m sure the fan base there is amazing.
Finally. Are we going to see you in the upcoming world tour?
Ha! let’s keep it as a surprise?
